The end of the harvest October 31, 2009

Yesterday marked our final trip to the farm.  I was really hoping it would be a great trip, alas, such was not the case.  It had rained the day before, so the fields were muddy, and the dirt around here is this reddish clay stuff.  Yuck!  So I was preoccupied with two things:  1)DS and making sure he didn’t stomp in the puddles 2)DD and making sure she didn’t pop out of the sling (it’s been awhile since we’ve used it and we are RUSTY!) and that said sling didn’t drag in the mud.  In any case, we went to pick some cabbage and cauliflower.  The heads of cabbage were GIANT, holy cow!  I didn’t really want that much, so I tried to find the smallest one.  Here’s what we ended up buying.

The cauliflower was fairly substantial as well.  The only drawback was that, thanks to the rain, there were slugs all over . . .gross!

So it wasn’t the fantastic picking experience I was hoping it would be, but still good for the babes to see how cabbage and cauliflower grow.  So long, farm!  Until next summer!
