Six a day February 13, 2011

That’s my goal . . . to pack six boxes a day. The way I see it, it’s the only way that I have a fighting chance of getting all of our stuff packed in the next 26 days. Now, if I lived on my own, or even if it was just DH and I, I could wait to start packing until the week before. Such is not at all the case, as we have three amazing little humans that live at our house. As you can imagine, packing efficiency is quite low with the extra “helpers”.
So when we decided for sure that we were moving, I calculated how many boxes I thought we’d have, divided that by the number of days to pack, and came up with six. Six boxes a day. Some days go better than others, but we’ve done pretty well . . .so far, somewhere between 50 and 70 boxes have been packed. Not bad.
But, there is still ALOT of stuff left to pack. I should be freaked out right about now, but I’m not, because I have a secret weapon . . . . . a moving company. Yeah, even after our experience from the deep with the previous moving company, we are giving it a go again. But this time, we are going in with our eyes wide open . . .we know what to expect and have a plan for how NOT to get burned. But I digress . . . so the moving company is coming to pack us up in about 3 weeks. Basically, they’ll be packing all of the hard stuff: garage items, the engine, the trannys, the artwork, etc. And, they ‘ll also pack anything that I haven’t been able to finish. Soo, I can now just pack away, keep plugging away, six boxes every day, and if I finish, great. If not, no biggie, we just pay for the number of boxes they pack. Seems like a great deal to me.
“What about your sewing machines?” you ask? I’ll be packing those, thanks. I realize that the movers are “professionals” but I’m MUCH more comfortable packing up my lovely machines myself. I have a pretty good track record for packing breakable stuff. Let’s see, between high school, college, grad school and married life, I’ve moved no less than 12 times. In ALL of that time, I’ve broken LESS than five things. Sooo, I’m quite confident that I can pack my insanely heavy, cast iron machines safely. In fact, probably better than the “professionals”=)
So, six boxes a day is going to get me from “house full of stuff” to “house full of boxes”, at least, that’s the plan!
