“It’s here! It’s here!”

Last week saw me jumping up and down, punching my fists in the air, doing a happy dance. “Our package, it’s here! Yipee!” What was all the excitement over? I’d ordered a Kitchen Aid (KA) stand mixer, something I’d been wanting to get for a LOOONG time. I saw one on CL for a good price, so I asked my friends over at TBW what they thought. One very wise mama cautioned that the model I was looking at had plastic gears. I don’t do plastic gears in my sewing machines, so it follows that heavy duty kitchen appliances also should not have plastic gears. This got me looking at some of the other KA models. The Professional 600 seemed to be a good fit as it had

• a very large bowl
• 575 watts
• 10 mixing speeds
• all metal gears
• steel construction

But, I wasn’t particularly interested in paying $600 for it.  At least I think that’s how much it was going for on the KA website.  I headed over to amazon.com to see what they had to offer.  While there, I saw a link to everythingkitchens.com.  This ended up being the winning ticket . . . it was a good price AND it came with a free ice cream maker attachment.  SOLD!  So I clicked buy and then waited not-so-patiently for it to arrive.

I have been baking up a storm.  I’ve been searching for recipes that I’d bypassed in the past since I didn’t have a stand mixer.  So far, I’ve been sticking to breads and desserts.  Tomorrow, I’m going to make an entree, we’ll see how that turns out.  I’ll be doing another post on the different recipes I’ve tried, some were better than others, but it was definitely fun to use the super mixer.

DH has yet to use to mixer to make his bread, but I’m thinking he’ll be trying it out soon enough.  The next thing on my shopping list is to get the whole set of pasta making attachments.  We LOVE pasta around here, and it would be excellent to be able to make our own lasagna, spaghetti, ravioli, etc.  I would have to spend more time in the kitchen, but I totally don’t mind if I have fun gadgets to play with.  Well, I guess a stand mixer isn’t exactly a gadget, per se, but it sure is fun!

Remember that free ice-cream maker?  I haven’t gotten it yet, sent the rebate form off the day the mixer came, so I’m hoping it will arrive soon.  Now that summer is around the corner, I’m imaging all sorts of yummy ice creams and sorbets made from fresh fruit!
