So I had to make a change in my washing machine workout today.  After the Calgon step (I decided to go with a full cap instead of just 1/2 a capful), I thought to see if the dipes smelled fresh and clean . . . not so much!  Grrrr!  The same stink was there . . gross!   So I ran another hot wash with a GOOD amount of Tide and then another hot rinse.  (And yes, I used a boatload of water today!  Yikes!)

By this time is was around 11:30am . If I would have soaked for 4 hours, there would have been no sunshine left.  So I opted to go ahead and hang them out right then.  After 3 hours of good ol’ sunshine, I brought them in and did the “kill anything left” step.

I just dumped them in the dryer and they smelled so clean . . .FINALLY!  Keeping my fingers crossed that the same old smell won’t creep back in while drying!

No, this isn’t some new fandangled workout that will blast fat like crazy!  It’s actually a workout, for the washing machine!  Our machine is getting a workout today.  Why?  We’ve been having some mega stink issues with the cloth trainers and overnight dipes.  I’m bound and determined to get rid of the stink.  So, here’s the plan, we’ll see if it works.

Washing the dipes

Cold rinse with 1/2 cup of vinegar

Hot wash with Tide Free and Clear

Cold rinse

Stripping the dipes of extra detergent

Hot wash with two squirts of Dawn (the original blue kind)

Hot rinse to make sure all the suds are gone

Stripping the dipes of extra minerals (thank you well water!)

Hot wash with 1/2 a capful of Calgon

Hot rinses till all the suds are gone

Killing whatever is left

Hot soak with 4-5 capfuls of Oxygen Bleach – let it soak for about 5 hours

Hang to dry in the sunshine – aka – natural bleach

I’m hoping this will work, cuz I REALLY don’t want to have to make a whole new stash, and I REALLY want these dipes to last through baby #3.  Keeping my fingers crossed!!
