Flat top stoves September 6, 2008

. . . .are not all they are cracked up to be.  When we had to buy a new stove in IL, we considered getting a flat top, thinking it would be convenient, but we wanted a gas stove, so we didn’t get it.  The house we are now renting has a flat-top stove (you know, the kind that doesn’t have any metal grates over the burners and purports to be easy to clean) and it’s awful!  First of all, cooking with an electric range is for the birds!  Second of all, IMPOSSIBLE to clean!  If you have a spill, it immediately gets cooked onto the top and then you can’t clean it off.  Which means that the next 500 times (this is a rough estimate=)) you use that burner, it stinks to high heaven.  Yuck!  Where’s my wonderful gas range when I need it?
